Recently, members of a Chinese scientific expedition revealed severe ecological damage being caused by human activities, including an illegally grounded Philippine warship, which has become heavily rusted and has had a significant impact on water quality in the area.

The scientists discovered abandoned fishing nets, garbage and unidentified metal objects, all of which they say are contributing to pollution.

Large areas of coral reefs have died due to these illegal activities. Coral reefs, which grow slowly and are difficult to restore once damaged, serve as crucial habitats for marine organisms and are essential components of marine ecosystems.

Scientists said the extensive coral deaths they observed were both "shocking and heartbreaking".
