I bought the book during TechEd 2006 (it's also signed by the authors...), it's not very big, only 256 pages, but it's really useful, and full of interesting information.

I've read it during the flight back to Italy, it opened my eyes on a lot of interesting things related to both Software Engineering and VSTS.

It's written by Sam Guckenheimer, group product planner for VSTS, with Juan J. Perez, from Personify Design. It doesn't talk about how to use VSTS, it talks about why VSTS was made like it is, and how to "effectively" use it.

There are 10 chapters, ranging from the explanation of the Value-Up paradigm and processes to requirements, project management, architecture, development, testing, ending with how to report bugs and how to troubleshoot the project.

Every chapter is full of valuable data and examples, and I really liked the switch from traditional processes to Value-Up processes, and the use of metrics, reports and all the data gathered using VSTS and TFS to understand the "real" situation of the project.

I followed Sam's session during TechEd, and I was astonished that I was using VSTS and TFS from one year and there were so many things that wasn't clear for me. The session opened my eyes about a lot of things.

Now I can really understand why we have to use multidimensional metrics, instead of relying on simple data.

I can say that the book had the same effect, but in a more structured way. The book has no "time constraints" and you can apply all the concepts in real situations, especially the troubleshooting chapter, full of examples and situations.

I really suggest that if you're working with VSTS and TFS, you have to buy it immediately. The book has interesting information for every role, and it can be read by everyone in the project.
