Professional Team Foundation Server Book is out!
It's really nice to see the fruits of your labor finally appear. In my case, it is my first book, Professional Team Foundation Server. Its been a long road to get there, but the book was released this week, and I received my first real copy in the mail today.

Back in the fall of 2005, Jean-Luc David approached me and asked if I would be interested in helping him write a book on Team Foundation Server. Now I had never written a book before, and had no idea of the time commitment required. I was very nervous, but I jumped at the chance. Along with Erik Gunvaldson, we were going to try and tackle the huge subject of Team Foundation Server. One day in the future, if anyone is interested, I'll detail what writing the book was like. It is definitely an experience.

Overall, I think we did a good job. Because of some time constraints, there are some things in a couple of my chapters I did not get to cover, or did not get covered as in-depth as I would like. I'm hoping to supplement information in the book with new blog posts and such. And that is where you, the readers, come in.

I would really LOVE your feedback on the book. Good, bad, indifferent, I want it all. Constructive or even un-constructive criticism, I will listen too. Tell me what you liked, what you didn't like, what you felt was covered well, and what you felt was left out that should have been in there. If you tell me what was missing and what you would like to see, I will do my best to put up some blog posts to cover that information. Leave a comment, or use the Contact link on my blog. Heck, my email address is listed in the back of the book, so just send me an email.

Also, I don't feel it would be ethical to review my own book for Team System Rocks!, since I help run the website. So, if anyone has read the book and would like to write a review of it, short or long, good or bad, please send me the review and I will post it, with no changes or edits (so make sure you spell everything correctly). I would like to have some reviews of the book on the site, as well as see what others think of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing process, and I hope to do it again sometime in the future. And I hope everyone who reads the book gets a little something out of it. Remember, it was my first time to write! :)   Also, I am really wanting to get a picture of the book on a shelf in a bookstore.  So if anyone goes to their local bookstore and sees the book, I would love it if you could snap a picture and send it to me.

So, there you go. The door is now open, and I am ready to hear what you have to say about it.

Have read just about half of the book (got it a week ago), and I find it really good. I would have wanted some more "Best Practices", but I have learned a lot, and I hope to learn more when reading the rest of the book.

In the book you said many people asked to be able to assign a work item to more than one person. I guess this would be possible if you add a new field "Participant1" and use it the same way as Assigned to? I am about to try this, because my Project Manager wants it. Or is there a better way? A group is not useable in this case.

Best Regards,
Tomas Scott

That might work.  You would have to go into all the queries and reports and make modifications to make sure it used both the assigned to field and the new field you added.  As well, you would want to modify your work item types to make sure the new field was accounted for in any work flow related issues.
