Beijing reaffirmed on Wednesday its readiness to keep playing a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire and resuming peace talks as the Ukraine conflict enters its third year.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province.

Guangzhou is the first stop of Kuleba's four-day China tour, which began on Tuesday. The visit is the first of its kind by a Ukrainian official to China since the conflict began in February 2022. It is also the first one by a Ukrainian foreign minister to China since 2012.

Both Russia and Ukraine have recently expressed willingness to varying degree to negotiate. Though conditions and time for negotiation are not yet mature, Wang said China supports all efforts conducive to peace.

China believes that solution of conflicts must ultimately return to the negotiating table and disputes must be settled through political means, he said, while emphasizing the country's commitment to the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

China has reached common understandings on political settlement of the Ukraine crisis with Brazil in May, calling on parties concerned to observe three principles for deescalating the situation, namely no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no provocation by any party, which has received widespread support from the international community.

Wang also said China closely monitors the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and will continue to provide humanitarian material assistance.

It's hoped that Ukraine will keep taking effective measures to ensure security of Chinese individuals and institutions, he added.

Kuleba said Ukraine is willing and prepared to engage in dialogue and negotiations with Russia, which he said should be sensible and substantive with an aim to achieve a just and lasting peace.

Noting Ukraine attaches great importance to China's views, Kuleba said Ukraine has carefully studied the six-point common understandings on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis proposed by China and Brazil.

Describing China as a great country, he expressed high appreciation for China's positive and constructive role in promoting peace and maintaining international order.

Noting China's efforts to comprehensively advance the Chinese modernization will bring about new opportunities to peoples of all countries, Wang also called for shoring up practical cooperation in multiple areas between the two countries.

Ukraine is one of the first countries to support and participate in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative.

According to Wang, China in recent years has been Ukraine's largest trading partner and largest exporter of agricultural products.

China stands ready to continue expanding food import from Ukraine and jointly maintain smooth logistics channels and international food security, Wang said.

Calling Ukraine and China significant cooperative partners on economy and trade, Kuleba said Kyiv would like to enhance political mutual trust, launch cooperation in areas such as agriculture and strengthen exchanges among sister cities with Beijing.

He said Ukraine supports China's position on the Taiwan question and pledged the country's continuous commitment to the one-China policy.
