KABUL - The new Afghan administration in Kabul has decided to resume the issuance of passports and national identification cards.

"Council of ministers of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in its meeting on Monday instructed the Ministry of Interior to resume the issuance of passport and Tazkira or national ID card," spokesman of the establishment Zabihullah Mujahid said in its twitter account on Monday.

The issuance of passports and national ID cards had been halted since the power takeover by Taliban on Aug. 15 in Afghanistan where thousands of people knocking the door of passport department in Kabul everyday for their travels abroad.

In the meantime, local media on Tuesday quoted Alam Gul Haqani, the director of passport department as saying that about 25,000 passports would be issued in the first phase with about 6,000 passports each day.
